Frank Torres received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from City University of New York’s Lehman College in the Bronx, and a Master of Science in Administration degree from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, of Puerto Rican parents, he lived in Puerto Rico on and off from age 10 to 23. His travels to Europe, the Middle East, and the Caribbean islands have strongly influenced his color palette. He currently resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Frank has been working as a professional artist and as a designer since 1992. His primary subjects have been in-studio still lifes, paintings from pictures, murals, architectural renderings, commission work, and furniture design. In 2004, As a designer he received the ADEX Platinum Award – the highest award in furniture design in USA by the Design Journal Magazine. Although a successful full-time designer and muralist, his true passion is oil painting.
Frank's preferred medium is oils on canvas. He is also very comfortable with watercolor because of his experience in creating architectural renderings. He taught interior design at a local college for four years with emphasis on architectural drafting, color theory, history of design, and tri-dimensional presentations.
Presently the artist is working towards the goal of painting at least 75 canvases in 2008. In 2007, he reached his goal of painting 50 canvases, many of which were sold privately.
Frank is has recently moved to New York and is now working as an art teacher in the Bronx. It will be interesting to see what returning to New York does to Frank's artistic expression.
